Winter ‘goody bags’ for older tenants

MORE THAN 150 older and vulnerable tenants have been supplied with a free winter “survival kit” by Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) and its partners.
The kits were put together as part of the Trust’s annual ‘Keep Warm Keep Well’ initiative, this year in partnership with The Warrington Federation of Tenants & Residents Associations, Sure Group, The Working Together Group and LiveWire.
They included fruit puddings, tea, coffee, hot drinks, porridge, dried milk, scarfs, hats, gloves, fleece blankets and other essential items for keeping warm. The kits also included lots of information on essential services & support for older people including healthy living, finances and keeping safe this winter.
Warrington has an ageing population and winter can be a particularly difficult time for older residents to get out and reach the shops, particularlywhen temperatures drop. Social isolation is also a real issue for many local residents and the Partnership hopes that by offering support through the offering of a winter warm kit that it’s the beginning of engaging people into services. The kits are being delivered by the Trust’s Neighbourhood Officers who will also ensure that they are aware of and accessing the correct services.
GGHT Chair Roy Smith, said: “It is great to see so many of our staff and partners supporting this worthwhile initiative. We recognise that many of our residents can find it tough during the winter months and it is important that they are aware of the support available to them to keep warm and well.
“It is important that we all look out for any elderly or vulnerable neighbours at this time of year. Just spending a few minutes checking that they are managing can make a huge difference, even if it is just in reassuring them that someone is looking out for them.”
