Girls’ school opens its doors to boys

A TOP girls school is to take boys in its senior school for first time in its 70-year history.
From September, Cransley School, based in Great Budworth, will open its doors to Year 7 boys.
Up until now the school has education boys and girls aged 4-11 in its junior school but has only allowed girls in its senior school
Cransley School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools, with a recent ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) report ranking them “good” and “excellent” in all areas.
The school prides itself on keeping its student-teacher ratio low. It will continue to co-educate in the junior school, but will now teach boys in single sex lessons in its senior school.
Headteacher Simon Leyshon said boys would join on a rolling programme, starting with the first year of senior school.
He said: “We are all extremely excited about the prospect of introducing boys to the senior school. We feel that through this change, both boys and girls will be able to reach their full potential in every aspect of their education with us, developing healthy relationships without detracting focus within the classroom environment.
“The decision to move to co-education in our senior school is a natural development, reflecting the realities of today’s world.”
The change has already led to new enquiries and is good news for parents of girls currently at the senior school with younger brothers in the junior school.
Cransley is holding an open day on Wednesday from 1pm – 3.30pm, after which entrance exams for both boys and girls will take place on Wednesday January 23.
