RUGBY League Challenge Cup winners Chris Riley and Paul Wood will be cheering on their sporting neighbours Warrington Town as they continue on their own road to Wembley in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup against Maine Road , tomorrow, Saturday, kick off 3pm.
The two Warrington Wolves rugby league stars will be special guests at Warrington’s Abacus Solicitors’ Community Stadium to cheer on the Wire who will be hoping to extend their five game unbeaten start to the season, which included a 3-0 away win at Atherton LR in the preliminary round of the competition.
Warrington born Riley and adopted Warringtonian Wood, who has spent his entire career with the Wolves but lives in Wigan, are no strangers to Wembley, with five Challenge Cup winners medals between them following three finals in four years – Wood missing one through injury.
Both players have shown a keen interest in Warrington Town’s ambitions and are hoping to cheer on more sporting success for the town.
Warrington Town Chairman Gary Skentelbery said: “The Wolves are great sporting ambassadors for our town and also do great work in the community.
“They have set high standards which we aim to emulate and while Warrington is often seen as a rugby town, we know it is also a hot bed of football with more than twenty teams associated with our own club and many more around the town.
“We are big supporters of the Wolves and it is good to get the likes of Chris and Paul, who are great sporting ambassadors, to show their support for our club.”
