Dream job for Wolves' fan

A dream has come true for life long Warrington Wolves’ fan David Rochford – after being appointed as the new heritage officer for the Wolves Foundation.
His new part-time role will involve creating a “living museum” within the Halliwell Jones Stadium, producing a Wire2Wolves timeline charting the history of the club.
The timeline will run the full length of the South Stand concourse and will feature historic moments in the history of the town, as well as the rugby club.
His task now is to decide what to include and he has just 12 months to complete it!
“The more you look into this project the more it provides an insight into social history,” said David who is a civil engineer by trade.
Examples include the 1910 tour to Australasia when Warrington’s first tourist Frank Shugars went on a boat for six weeks and was away on tour for five months – compared to the modern day set up when the Wolves went on a pre-season tour to Australian for two weeks.
“I want to make comparisons between the full time professional players of today compared to those of yesteryear, working down the pit or in a factory and playing in front of their work mates. I want to look at training regimes and diets – or lack of them!
“Most of all I want the memories of players and fans.”
Part of the timelines will include three projection areas including footage of games, some history of the town and the memories of going to games, including Wembley and the historic Odsal final.
“This video content will be the focal point of the learning experiences for future visits to the stadium – and this content can easily be updated,” added David.
He has already been in touch with local schools, colleges and history groups to help gather information.
“I want to create information and memories which can be recorded before they are lost forever.”
Any one with memories to share can contact David at [email protected] or on 01925 248894.
