Lacklustre Town crash to defeat

LACKLUSTRE Warrington Town produced one of their worst performances of the season as they crashed 2-0 at lowly Clitheroe.
The defeat severely dented Town’s play-off hopes leaving them four points of the pace with just seven games remaining this season, five of them away from home.
Town could have taken the lead early on following a mix up in the Clitheroe defence which left the goal keeper out of place but a shot by Matty Cross (pictured right) was cleared by a defender on the line.
It turned out to be Warrington’s only real chance of the half.
The home team took the lead from the penalty spot when River Humphreys pulled down a defender in the box and Oliver Devenney stepped up to score from the spot after 24 minutes.
The only other real excitement of the half was an injury to the assistant referee on the far side which resulted in the rest of the half only having two officials.
The replacement official in the second half was none other than former Warrington Town manager Paul Moore!
In the second half Warrington produced no real threats on the Clitheroe goal and it was no surprise when the home team extended their lead on 78 minutes when Devenney converted with a looping free kick
which left Pritchard rooted to the spot in the Town goal.
Warrington had a half shout for a penalty late on when substitute Gavin Salmon was clattered on the edge of the box.

  1. It’s about time that this shambles got sorted. Either the Management team are to soft and making allowances, or the players don’t give a toss. Ironic that Paul Moores was mentioned.

The only difference from his day appears to be the table position. Otherwise it’s the same static performance. It’s no longer acceptable to say that we have improved from last season.

  2. The Club is going nowhere. It will take a lot for me to consider turning up at Cantilever Park once a fortnight next season, the performances are pathetic, the players don’t really care, the support has too much Scouse mentality (“This is our year” “We will be challenging for the top 5” etc) and watching the team is generally boring. I will only consider staying with Warrington if there is a decent attempt to finish higher than 9th this season. If not, I’m out.
