WARRINGTON Town’s 11 game unbeaten run came to an end as they went down 2-0 at table topping Curzon Ashton.
With the game goaless in a close first half, Warrington started the brighter of the two sides after the break but fell behind following a defensive mix up allowed the hosts to score.
When River Humphreys turned into his own net it was clearly not going to be Warrington’s afternoon as they tatsed defeat for the first time in 2012.
Mike Tomlinson (pictured right) returned to the club as captain and started at centre back while Dale Wright started in place of Rob Hardwick.Striker Gavin Salmon failed a late fitness test.
In an open and flowing first half, both sides had a number of good chances with Liam Shipton and Nick Jackson linking up well on the right wing. Curzon centre backs Andy Watson and Graham Kay kept Town at bay along with goalkeeper Joshua Olleranshaw.
As the second half got underway, Warrington began to dominate with Chris Thompson (pictured top) missing two great chances after being free at the back post. Owen Roberts had a free kick saved by Ollerenshaw.
The hosts took the lead on 55 minutes when a defensive mix up between Shipton, Jackson and Pritchard saw the latter roll the ball out with no communication, Lee Blackshaw crossed the ball over to an unmarked Sam Walker on the edge of the box as he fired his shot past the helpless keeper.
Curzon started to put pressure on the Warrington defence but skipper Tomlinson and fellow centre half River Humphreys kept them out until the 72nd minute.
A low cross from the left hand side flashed across goal and a shot from Kristian Dennis hit Humphreys and turned it into his own net.
Curzon introduced Fish, Purcell and Settle later in the game while Chris Thompson was replaced by Brett Adamson.
Town now host Radcliffe Borough at Cantilever Park on Tuesday night with a 7:45pm kick off when they expect to welcome back full back Mike Duffy who has now completed a three match ban.
