TWO new members have been co-opted to Poulton-with-Fearnhead Parish Council - with cross party support.
Warrington Borough councillor Graham Friend (Labour) and local resident Nicola Brent (Liberal Democrat) have filled two vacancies on the council.
One of the last acts for the late Colin Oliver (Liberal Democrat) - who tragically died while serving as chairman of the parish council - was to agree that the two vacancies should go, one each, to Labour and Liberal Democrat.
So new chairman Cllr Doug Ashbrook (Liberal Democrat) seconded Labour's nomination of Cllr Friend.
Labour supported the co-option of Cllr Brent.
Cllr Friend said: "It is a privilege to be able to serve Cinnamon Brow on our parish council
"I take my work as a borough councillor for Poulton North very seriously, and will treat my role on the parish council in the same way. I pledge to work to ensure that people in my area get a fair deal, and I will not let Cinnamon Brow down."

Wouldn't it be be better if Parish Councillors had no political affiliations.

I could not agree more with those sentiments. The politicization of Parish Councils is the last thing any local community needs or indeed wants. The interests of the community will only be best served by all members of their Parish Council working as a collective towards trying to achieve what local residents want, without political triumphalism intruding into every matter of local concern. As soon as the political party element raises its ugly head, the concerns of the community take second place to point scoring, and everyone is a looser.

I have always thought party politics should be kept at arms length in the workings of Parish Council. After reading what Parish Councilors have posted against the WW article "Residents suffer shambolic treatment" I am all the more convinced.
