AFTER another high-scoring victory at the weekend Warrington Wolves boss Tony Smith fears for the quality in depth of the competition and believes the format should be assessed each year “from the outside.”
Meanwhile Smith confirms “outstanding” second rower Benny Westwood faces a six-eight week lay-off after suffering medial ligament damage during the victory over his former club.
“He is hoping to get back sooner and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did with his toughness and determination,” said Smith who believes Westwood has been one of the outstanding players in Super League this season.
Meanwhile the high scoring victory came at a heavy cost with young centre Rhys Evans ruled out for the season with a broken foot which requires an operation and points machine Brett Hodgson facing a 3-4 week lay off with a torn quad.
But on the positive side Lee Briers and Matty Blythe are expected to return for the tough test at Catlans, while there is also a recall for Chris Riley who looks set to replace Hodgson at full-back in France.
