Unstoppable Wolves devour Rhinos

THEY may have conceded their first try for four weeks, but rampant Warrington were again looking unstoppable as they completed the double over Leeds with their first win at Headingley for five years.
The seven-try victory showed Wolves have not lost their appetite for victory as they defeated the Rhinos 42-6 – an even more emphatic win than the 40-18 drubbing they inflicted on them at the Halliwell Jones in March.
At half-time, Wolves were leading 12-6 and the Rhinos were still in it. But in the second half, Tony Smith’s men looked almost as much in control of things as they did in the three straight “nillings” against Keighley, Swinton and Castleford.
It was Lee Briers who led the way, following on from his club record of 44 points last weekend with a nine-minute try which Hodgson converted.
Joel Monaghan – who was later to leave the field with a knee injury – added another, but the Rhinos hit back through Danny Buderus to keep in touch at the break.
But then Wolves took control, with tries from David Solomona, Chris Bridge, Michael Monaghan, Matt King and Briers. Hodgson kicked seven goals.
Leeds never gave up and went close several times. After the game, Smith was prepared to acknowledged they had played well.
But on this evidence there was little to suggest that Wolves are not title contenders and on their present form they will take some stopping
They took their points tally in May to an impressive 354 – an ominous sign for any side facing them at home or away.
The loss of Joel Monaghan was a big disappointment but Wolves are playing well and with supreme confidence and determination and have the strength in depth to keep going.
Warrington: Hodgson; Williams, Bridge, Atkins, J Monaghan; Briers, Myler; Morley, M Monaghan, Carvell, King, Westwood, Grix.
Replacements: Solomona, Cooper, Higham, Wood.
