A vehicle fire on the M62 eastbound between junctions 10 and 11 at the Croft interchange resulted in two lanes being closed while emergency services attended at the scene at 9.15am on Tuesday morning.
The lanes remained closed while work was carried out to deal with a fuel spillage at the scene and to remove the damaged vehicle.
The car was on the hard shoulder.
Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel to put out the fire.
They then continued to damp down while checking for hotspots with a thermal-imaging camera. They also used absorbent powder and mats to soak up leaked fuel.
