A SECTION of the popular Trans Pennine Trail at Warrington is to be closed for up to six months for repairs following subsidence.
An order is to be made by Warrington Borough Council prohibiting walking and cycling on the trail from its junction with Penketh Footpath No 5, immediately west of the grounds of the Ferry Tavern at Fiddler’s Ferry, to its junction with the same footpath immediately east of the tavern.
The closure will be effective from Thursday, January 11 for six months as and when signed on site.
Access will be under the control of the contractor during the work, however access to properties in the area will be maintained.
An alternative route for cycling will be via Carter House Bridge, Tan House Lane, Moss Bank Road, Gorsey Lane, Bennett’s Lane, Widnes Road, Warrington Road, Penketh Road, Old Liverpool Road, Barnard Street, Forrest Way and vice versa.
An alternative route for walking will be via Penketh Footpath No. 5 around the front of the Ferry Tavern.
The closure is required to allow for the investigation and appropriate remedial works following discovery of the subsidence.
