WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has added her weight to the campaign opposing a freight terminal plan at the former Parkside Colliery.
She has teamed up with Burtonwood and Winwick councillors Cathy Mitchell and Terry O’Neill to strongly oppose any proposed freight terminal development at the former colliery site near Winwick.
She said: “Such a proposal would be bad for Warrington and I will oppose it as I did the last time this idea arose. Any development of the site could cause significant traffic problems in Winwick and people should make sure they register their views through the consultation process which is currently underway.“
Burtonwood and Winwick councillor Cathy Mitchell added: “I will be attending the public meeting organised by Parkside Action Group on 18th January at 7.30pm at Hope Academy and would encourage all those interested to attend, as well as contributing to the consultation on the St. Helens Local Plan before it closes on 30th January.
“If the proposals go through lots of green belt around Parkside and Winwick will be lost. Terry and I oppose any development on Parkside which would make the traffic problems in Winwick worse.”
Developers claim the scheme, which has been subject to numerous failed attempts over the past decade, could create thousands of new jobs providing a boost to the surrounding area.

Just give the place it’s own motorway junction and ban lorries from accessing it any other way
