A LYMM club that formed almost 30 years ago is closing because of lack of membership.
The Churches Together-run Wednesday Afternoon Group (previously known as the housebound club) was formed in 1971 to provide activities for elderly people.
Father Michael Burgess, vicar of St Peter’s Church, Oughtrington, said: “Unfortunately numbers have fallen, especially during the past six months. It is also difficult to get drivers and people to help with refreshments.
“With this and rising costs, we felt it was sensible to disband the group.”
He said there were many other groups in Lymm catering for elderly people. The club previously had up to 30 members, but is now down to about 10.
Its last meeting with be the Christmas Party at 2pm on December 15 at Lymm United Reform Church.
