Warrington Town sign striker Holroyd

WARRINGTON Town have signed experienced striker Chris Holroyd from Northern Premier League rivals Stalybridge Celtic.

Holroyd, 33, has played in the Football League for the likes of Brighton, Rotherham and Preston, and played alongside Yellows management team Paul Carden and Mark Beesley at Cambridge United.

He bolsters a front-line that has seen Josh Amis play every minute of the league season so far, with Jordan Buckley struggling with a niggly injury.

Carden said: “He’ll give us a different dimension that we haven’t got as a forward.

“With Chrissy here now, we can take a bit of the load off Josh Amis. I didn’t want to get caught in a situation we had last year where we only had one striker for too long a spell.

“I think Chris’s experience will give us good options.”

Meanwhile, the club has confirmed that left-back Tom Warren, who was Yellows’ Player of the Year in the curtailed 2019/20 campaign, has joined Spalding United on loan.

Their next game is away at Mickleover FC in the Northern Premier League on Saturday.
