MEMBERS of Culcheth Players are currently rehearsing for their annual pantomime. – which this year is “Jack and the Beanstalk.”
The story is the familiar one which has been entertaining children – and adults – for generations.
Jack is living in great poverty with his mother and brothers. His mother owes rent money to the evil squire, so Jack is sent off to market to sell their last cow for a good price so his mother can pay her debts.
On the way he is tricked into selling the cow for a bag of worthless beans. His mother is deeply disappointed and throws the beans into the garden. The next day the beans have grown into a huge beanstalk. Jack climbs the beanstalk where his adventures begin.
Can Jack manage to escape the clutches of the giant at the top of the beanstalk and return home safely with riches for his family.
