PCSO wins policing award for helping victim of road collision

A POLICE Community Support Officer from Warrington has won a policing award for helping the victim of a serious collision.
PCSO Emma Darroch did far more than was expected of her in the aftermath of the collision which left a man with half a brain and other complex issues.
The 34-year-old from Warrington regularly visited the man, ensuring that he had essential household items, making meals for him when he had forgotten to eat and taking him to local amenities when she found him wandering the streets.
Her considerable efforts and compassion for others ensured that the appropriate safeguarding was put in place and the man got the support he needed to improve his quality of life.
Emma has been rewarded in the form of the Services to the Public gong, sponsored by CTM, at Cheshire Constabulary’s annual Achieving Cheshire Excellence (ACE) Awards.
The ACE Awards are the constabulary’s highest accolades that can be awarded to an individual or team that has gone an extra mile or demonstrated exceptional commitment to policing in Cheshire.
After picking up the award, Emma said: “I really enjoy the work that I do and I am so happy that I was able to help the man and make his life better.
“He could barely function following his brain injury and had no local family to assist him.
“By visiting him regularly, and doing things like making him meals and going to the shops to make sure that he had food over Christmas, I was able to ensure that he was being fed and had access to the appropriate services.
“He’s now in a place where he gets 24-hour care and is safe and well.
“I am proud of the level of support I was able to give him and am really pleased to have won an ACE Award.”
