WARRINGTON Borough Council is continuing its crackdown on motorists who misused the disabled person’s blue badge scheme.
Two motorists have been fined and ordered to pay costs after being convicted at Warrington Magistrates’ Court.
Khurshid Mahmood, 54, of Folly Lane, Warrington pleaded guilty to misusing a blue disabled badge by parking on double yellow lines without the badge holder being present.
to an offence at Warrington Magistrates Court on 11 September 2019.
He was fined £66, required to pay a contribution to costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £30.
Elaine Bowerman, 54, of Secker Avenue, Warrington, was found guilty of an offense in her absence.
The court heard she had used a blue badge which had expired in 2015.
She was fined £220, required to pay costs of £300 and a victim surcharge of £30.
After the hearing, council leader Cllr Russ Bowden said: “This is another example that shows fraudulent activity doesn’t pay. The blue badge scheme allows disabled motorists or passengers to park legally near to places they need to visit. Abuse of the blue badge scheme is unacceptable.
“It is the responsibility of all using a blue disabled badge, whether for themselves or their passenger, to ensure it is used properly in line with the scheme’s conditions and to renew the badge when required.”
