A mature mother of four student from Warrington is set to go live and unplugged from the Shetland islands as part of her Master’s degree project.
Shetland Unplugged, which is to be hosted in the Shetland Islands, is the brainchild of Andrea Fox, a Master’s Degree student at the University of the Highlands and Islands who grew up in Stockton Heath, Warrington.
Ms. Fox, mother-of-four, a writer and songwriter is a former teacher, artist manager and promoter. Born in Warrington as Andrea Bibby, she now lives in Shetland after spending twelve years in Australia.
It was her experience with the Australian Songwriter’s Association and running her own events called Rock in the City in Melbourne which has led to a discovery of many untapped talented artists during her time in Shetland.
A taster event, which takes place on April 20, will promote the talent Shetland has to offer and will be live streamed to audiences anywhere in the world.
Artists will have the opportunity to perform to a Saturday night audience at Mareel at this free event which is promoted to industry in London, national press and around the globe. Shetland Unplugged exists to encourage members of the music industry and the public to support far northern musicians by tuning in to what Shetland has to offer.
The eclectic evening of music and verse is organised by Shetland Unplugged founder, Andrea Fox in association with the University of the Highlands and Islands and Shetland Arts.
Audience members will be invited to give feedback online and in the venue via forms on the tables which can be anonymously posted to artists at the venue.
The event will open with young talent, Scott Moncrief and High Level Hot Club then work through a series of Shetland’s finest songwriters, poets and performers with names including Forgotten Sons who are signed to a New York record label, the talented Jacky Sand and the amazing Gina Paola Ritch with Los salty Dogs.
Award-winning composer and songwriter, Eamonn Watt will present his electronic work and Gail Wiseman will perform her prize-winning song, Raleigh Cry, co-written with Carol Jamieson. Many other talented artists are joining them. To end the night, Shetland cover bands and musicians are invited to perform and Jam the night away until close. The after-party kicks off with Crossfire and Delorean.
Shetland Unplugged has invited all musicians to perform in an acoustic vibe, with drummers playing with brushes and other percussion to make the atmosphere intimate.
