Face your fears – and raise money for charity

A VOLUNTARY organisation in Warrington is asking people to “face their fears” to raise money for charity.
Birchwood-based The Duckpond has raised nearly £7,000 for UK charities over the past four years and wants to make a special effort this year to mark their fifth birthday.
Founder member of the group Lees Johnson said: “Our aim is to get people off the sofa and make some life experiences while raising money for charity at the same time.
“This year we’re five years old and we’ve launched our biggest project to date – ‘Five years, Face your Fears’.
“We’re challenging the general public to face their fears with us in a series of events that take people out of their comfort zone and have fun. We’re supporting a local charity, Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) throughout 2019.
“On May 11 we’re holding a Creepy Crawly Day at WDP’s Centre for Independent living, Beaufort Street, Warringtn. Entry is £2 per person and the event runs from 12 noon to 4pm. It’s essentially a chance for old and young alike to get up close to some of nature’s most fantastic animals – Spiders, Snakes, Frogs, Lizards, etc.
“As well as the creepy crawly encounter we are asking for reluctant volunteers to hold a snake/spider/bug, raise some much needed funds for WDP through sponsorship and overcome their fears at the same time.
“There will also be various charity stalls, face painting, arts and crafts and other family activities.”
