New pub book helps unearth rare photo

A new book “The Pubs, Inns and Alehouses of Lymm” has helped unearth a rare photograph and provide a boost for the heritage centre based in the village.

Visitors to Lymm’s pubs were also able to do a little of their Christmas shopping at the bar this year, as most pubs and hotels were acting as sales points for the new Heritage Centre book “The Pubs, Inns and Alehouses” of Lymm – described as a short pub crawl through history.

In total over 400 copies were sold in just five weeks in the run up to Christmas raising almost £2,000 toward the running costs of the Centre.

Alan Taylor – co-author of the book with Alan Williams, said: “We are really grateful to all the pubs who have given our sales a huge boost. Hopefully we have introduced a new audience to another aspect of Lymm’s fascinating history too.”

The book has also sent local people digging into their own photo collections. The most exciting find so far is a photograph of the “Dog” on Mill Lane in its heyday , possibly 100 years ago that was discovered by Chris Adamson in his grandfather Jack Adamson’s collection.

The book is also on sale at Lymm Post Office, Lymm Library and, of course, the Heritage Centre which re-opens on January 3.
