Insurance company helps the homeless at Christmas

A WARRINGTON-based insurance company is working with a homeless and housing charity to help ensure people in need receive practical Christmas presents and essentials.
Advantage Home Construction Insurance (AHCI), based in Birchwood, a provider of structural defects warranties, are helping the Whitechapel Centre by donating to the charity and also inviting customers to drop off useful items at their offices.
David Sumner, sales director at AHCI, said: “Every year we assist thousands of people into their dream homes so we see every day the comfort and safety having a roof over your head brings. The Whitechapel Centre do amazing work in helping some of the most vulnerable people off our streets and into accommodation and we are delighted to support this important cause”
The Whitechapel Centre is the leading homeless and housing charity for the Liverpool region. They work with people who are sleeping rough, living in hostels or struggling to manage their accommodation.
The charity is committed to helping people find and maintain a home and learn the life skills essential for independent living.
AHCI is an “official helper” of the Whitechapel Centre, visitors to their businesses have been dropping off the items they need the most at the drop off-points at these businesses. They include: carrier bags and sleeping bags, yoga mats, socks, men’s boxer shorts, women’s underwear, long sleeve T-shirts, spray deodorants, men’s toiletries and men’s or women’s coats.
Also, in the lead-up to Christmas, the charity is asking for: gift vouchers, men’s toiletry gift sets, chocolates and boxes of biscuits which will be given to those in need.
According to a recent ITV report, more than 900 children across the North West will spend this Christmas homeless, and the number of families who will spend the festive period in emergency accommodation is at a ten-year high.
The Whitechapel Centre was established in 1975 to meet the needs of homeless people in Liverpool and now has more than 80 members of staff and 40 volunteers. By working with local companies and individuals across the North West, they have helped 1,648 homeless people back into accommodation between 2017 and 2018.
