Elderly woman’s purse stolen by cruel trickster

AN elderly woman had her purse stolen at Warrington after being tricked into getting out of her car.
The cruel theft took place in Winwick Street, near to Warrington Central Station, at about 2pm yesterday
Numerous people were in the vicinity at the time and police would like to hear from them in case they saw anything that would help with their enquiries.
The woman was sitting in a car when the man approached her and gestured to the rear of the vehicle.
She thought something was wrong and got out of the car and joined the man at the back of the car. But he then jumped into the driver’s seat and started the engine, although he did not take the car.
Instead, he allegedly stole the woman’s purse from the front passenger seat and made off towards Central Station.
The bag contained cash cards, cash and personal items.
Police say the man was wearing dark clothing, with a white collared shirt. They are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area at the time
