WARRINGTON Town smashed five past North Ferriby United to secure an impressive second win of the season.
After two goalless draws last weekend, the Yellows were dominant from start to finish with five different goalscorers putting the hosts to the sword at the Chadwick Stadium.
Richard Brodie scored his first goal for the club and there was a debut goal for new signing Bohan Dixon.
The Yellows were finally able to hand debuts to former Football League duo David Raven and Jack Mackreth, after their international clearance following their moves from Wrexham came through in the week.
They started strongly, keeping North Ferriby, who had recorded a fine win over South Shields last weekend, pinned in their own half.
There already a few niggles in the game in the opening 10 minutes, with Jordan Harrison picking up a yellow card for an apparent elbow on the all-action Shaun Beeley in the Yellows midfield.
Mackreth could have marked his debut with a goal on eight minutes when he was slid in, hesitating to allow a defender to get in, but it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken.
Beeley linked play from the right to the left to find Adam Hughes, who cut inside his man and chipped a ball in for Tony Gray to measure a header in to the bottom corner.
The lead was doubled on 18 minutes from the penalty spot, after Gray had found Mackreth wide right and his cross was flicked on by Brodie, with Beeley fouled as he shot. Brodie stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way for 2-0.
North Ferriby were in disarray and Gray should have done better from Brodie’s pull back, before Brodie himself took on Ben Garrity’s lofted through ball and forced a stop out of the ‘keeper.
A third goal came before half time, an exquisite finish by Dylan Vassallo, lofting the ball first time over the ‘keeper after being played in by Gray.
Half time did little to change the pattern of the game and it was nearly four within three minutes of the restart, when Gray’s driven free-kick was well saved one handed by a diving Lewis Exall.
As North Ferriby attempted to get a goal back, they were leaving space on the break and Vassallo started to punish them on a regular basis. He flicked the ball around his man and surged away down his left, his low ball in dummied by Brodie and Gray was only denied by a fine tackle by James Piercy
Brodie and Gray were both withdrawn to save their legs for Tuesday night’s visit of Workington, meaning Dixon and Josh Amis could run the flagging defense ragged.
Amis’ first contribution almost set up a goal for Hughes, who crashed an effort against the crossbar, before Amis almost scored himself off a Mitch Duggan through ball, the ‘keeper coming out well to save.
Garrity steered Vassallo’s corner over the bar before the fourth goal finally came on 77 minutes, a great counter attack led by Vassallo again, found Hughes and then his low ball to the back post was diverted home by Amis.
It turned in to a rout on 82 minutes as Garrity won the ball back and found Amis, who played inside for substitute James Caton and he found Dixon to slide home.
