A STUDENT has produced an eye-catching new altar for the chapel at the Warrington campus of Chester University.
Emmeline Heaphy, a second year Fine Art with Graphic Design student, was asked to revamp the original altar in the chapel as part of her work-based learning placement.
Inspired by elements of Christian art, Emmeline unveiled the new piece at an official ceremony held at the Chapel.
The 21-year-old said: “I have undertaken a lot of research into Christian art, and have taken trips to different cathedrals to get inspiration for the design of the piece.
“I used the wood and the metal from the original altar to create the structure of each of the three panels and used the light to symbolise the Holy Trinity.”
Father Ian Delinger, assistant chaplain, who commissioned the piece added: “I am delighted with the finished result. It is a great concept with the use of light.
“Emmeline’s placement involved learning about Christianity, Christian art and its history, and observing worship in different styles. She has worked extremely hard and all her effort is reflected in this wonderful piece.”
