A WARRINGTON man is making final preparations for an incredible 6,500 cycle ride in aid of charity.
Wayne O’Brien, 51, of Orford flies to the United States on Friday to start a 3,500 coast-to-coast ride across America with no back-up crew and only a tent for sleeping in.
Then he will cycle a further 3,000 miles through Europe and back home to Warrington.
Wayne, who suddenly decided he was “51, unfit and fed up” has been training for the adventure for months.
He aims to cycle between 80 and 100 miles each day and be back home by the end of August. He will be cycle for two charities, the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace and Help for Heroes, an Army initiative to help those wounded in conflict.
Wayne, a senior lecturer in television production at the Warrington campus of Chester University, has been sponsored colleagues, students, family and friends.
Anyone who would like to contribute can do so at the website www.thecharityride.com and supporters will also be able to keep track of his progress through the same website.
Said Wayne: “This is something I’ve wante dto do for ages, so it’s now or never. The fact that I’m doing it unsupported is a little scary, but that’s part of the adventure.”
