No way through as Mersey flood forecast comes true!

THEY said it could happen – and it did. The footpath under Arpley Bridge, Warrington WAS flooded at high tide today.

This picture was taken shortly before 1pm – by which time people wishing to take a short cut under the bridge, near Bridge Foot, had been having to find another route for some time.

The Environment Agency had issued a warning that the path under the bridge could be flooded and their forecast was correct.

They are continuing to warn of possible flooding throughout today – with the next peak period around midnight.

The Mersey was at a high level throughout its length, thanks to the high tide, Storm Eleanor’s high winds and plenty of rain.

But motorists drove over the bridge largely unaware of the swift flowing river only a few feet below them.

  1. It’s news to anyone who doesn’t know about it – and that’s probably a lot of people. Environment agency thought it important enough to mention apparently!

  2. When we were taking our photograph, several people arrived who had been intending to use this path. I would hope that by publishing this “news” we enabled others to avoid a wasted journey!
