WARRINGTON welcomed in the New Year by setting the night sky alight with fireworks.
All over the borough, impromptu firework displays could be seen from afar.
But of course there were those who could not handle the celebrations without falling foul of the law.
Police made 12 arrests in the town centre during the night for offences such as drunk and disorderly, public order and assault.
A man was arrested at 4.40am on Academy Way for alleged fraud offences in Staffordshire and failing to appear at court in Cheshire.
At Latchford, a man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
But no major incidents were reported.
Police warned people who had been drinking heavily last night to be aware that they could still be over the limit for driving this morning – and still faced the possibility of a driving ban if they were caught.
