A CHARITY which helps disabled people has appealed for help to catch thieves caught on camera stealing wheelchair batteries worth hundreds of pounds from their premises in Warrington.

CCTV cameras at Warrington Disability Partnership’s premises on Beaufort Street, Sankey Bridges, have captured images of the culprits who have been committing their crimes during the early hours.

The charity has been hit by arson and theft five times in the past few months.

WDP co-founder, chief executive Dave Thompson is now appealing for help to catch those responsible for the latest thefts which involved two men, armed with bolt cutters, raiding their premises, stealing wheelchair batteries worth an estimated £500.

“There have been five incidents in recent months,” said Dave.” The first involved an arson incident when some kids set fire to a bin. We were able to catch them and brought them into the premises and gave them a good talking to and informed their parents. I think they learned their lesson.

“This was followed by a couple of incidents of thefts of wheelchairs which is the lowest of the low. These are wheelchairs we loan to people coming out of hospital.

“Now we have been targeted by two men wearing baseball caps and sunglasses during the early hours who have come armed with bolt cutters to break into our premises.

“We hope someone recognises them from the CCTV images.”

The crimes come as Warrington Disability Partnership celebrates its 25th anniversary and is busy preparing for Disability Awareness Day at Walton Gardens on Sunday July 10.

  1. Stealing from charities such as this is truly as Dave Thompson says “the lowest of the low”.
One of the men appears to have grey hair yet with a dark (fake?, stuck on ?) moustache. Hope someone with a sense of decency recognises them and reports them to the police.
