LONG-time Croft resident Norman Partington is to contest a by-election following the resignation of Conservative councillor Jim Hilton.
The by-election will take place on May 7 – same day as the General Election and borough council elections.
Mr Partington has lived in Croft for 36 years and knows the village well. His three children all went to Croft Primary School, and subsequently to Culcheth High School, where he was a governor for seven years.
He is a former deputy director of computer services at a Liverpool University, where he worked for 30 years.
His wife is a retired Further Education art lecturer.
Mr Partington said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent the people of Croft on the parish council. One of the issues that I am keen to pursue locally is the delivery of high speed fibre broadband
to the area.
“I would like to ensure that an effective and reliable fast broadband service is brought as quickly as possible to all parts of Croft. So far this has been at best patchy, and getting information on the progress of its distribution is very difficult.”
