HELEN Newlove, the widow of murder victim Garry Newlove, has called for the police to be given more powers to deal with drunken yobs.
Mrs Newlove made her plea when she appeared before the influential House of Commons Home Affairs Committee.
She also wants to see more police on the streets.
Mrs Newlove, who witnessed her husband being kicked to death by a gang of thugs in the street near their home at Padgate, Warrington.
She told MPs: “Enough is enough. I was passionate about this before it happened.
“I used to say to Carry ‘we’ll have to wait for someone’s murder – unfortunately it was my husband.
“I’m not going quiet on this. We need safety on our streets.”
Mrs Newlove told MPs she believed the courts system was “disgraceful.” Victims needed more help and respect.
People should be able to feel safe going out of their homes to protest about criminal vandalism and binge drinking.
Politicians should be given more powers to deal with thugs and with the pubs and shops which sold drink to them, she said.
Mrs Newlove and her daughters, Zoe, 18, Danielle, 15 and Amy, 14 have moved out of their Padgate home and the property is now on the market.
