RESIDENTS are being urged to help shape the future of housing in the borough by taking part in the Warrington Housing Needs Survey 2026.
The survey will help the council better understand the types of homes local people need now and in the future, including homes to rent and buy, affordable housing, and specialist accommodation such as accessible and adapted homes.
By sharing their views, residents will help to ensure that future housing provision reflects the needs of residents requiring supported and specialist housing, while also informing broader strategic housing priorities across the borough.
Information gathered through the survey and wider needs assessment will help inform:
• The council’s Local Supported Housing Strategy and delivery plan
• Future commissioning and investment decisions across housing, health, social care and prevention services
• The council’s Local Housing Needs Assessment, which is a separate study carried out to inform the emerging Local Plan
• Wider council plans and strategies, as well as work undertaken by voluntary, community and third-sector partners
The survey will also help inform future supported housing provision for residents who need additional support to live independently. As part of this work, the council is carrying out a Supported Housing Needs Assessment to better understand existing provision, identify unmet need and plan for future demand.
The findings will play an important role in developing the council’s Local Supported Housing Strategy and delivery plan, which local authorities are required to publish by March 2027 under the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023.
Cllr John Kerr-Brown, cabinet member for housing services and licensing, said: “Understanding the housing needs of our communities is vital if we’re to plan effectively for the future. Whether you’re looking to buy your first home, rent a property, downsize, or need specialist housing support, we want to hear about your experiences and aspirations.
“The information residents provide will help us understand current and future demand, shape housing priorities and ensure we have the right homes and support in place for people across Warrington. I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to complete the survey and have their say.”
Around 15,000 households across Warrington will receive a questionnaire by post as part of the survey. However, all residents are encouraged to take part, whether or not they receive a postal copy.
