Pupils send help to Africa

PUPILS from Statham Primary School have been giving other children the chance of an education by donating bags brimming with school essentials to the Back Pack Project.
Old jotters, rulers, pens, pencils, t-shirts, towels and shorts have all been crammed into back packs to be sent to African country Malawi as part of the UK and Ireland based project.
A total of 80 back packs were collected from the school and will be sent to the African country along with a few other late donations from the pupils.
They decide to embark on the project after learning about the different cultures and experiences during Fair Trade Fortnight.
The school council, entirely made up of pupils, then decided to take on the back pack challenge after watching a special DVD that was sent in from organising company Mary’s Meals.
It is estimated that up to 100 million children don’t receive a proper education in Africa because they are forced in to work to raise funds for their families.
