Village parking nightmare

PARKING in Culcheth is becoming a nightmare” – that’s according to parish council chairman Paul Campbell.
His comments came after the issue of parking provisions in the village centre was again raised at a meeting of Culcheth and Glazebury parish council.
Coun Keith Bland, said: “We are reaching a stage now where we are at saturation point. Culcheth is no longer what was and that is shame.”
He suggested that after the May 1 elections, the newly elected council should meet and come up with some sort of parish plan in attempt to solve the parking problems and so that any future planning applicants would know in advance where parking space could be sought.
Coun Roger Rankin also suggested that a member from the borough council’s development control department should also attend to notify the parish council of the exact guidelines for parking provisions connected with future developments.
Last month Coun Campbell met with local landowner Valerie Lythgoe to discuss the “aggressive” clamping policy on her car parks in Lodge Drive.
Alternatives to clamping, such as pay and display and time restricted parking, were suggested to Mrs Lythgoe, which she is currently considering.
