A MOTHER and her terrified children barricaded themselves in their own home when a drunken youth burst into the house.
Michael Paget, 18, smashed property and stole CDs after forcing his way into the house, Warrington Crown Court was told.
But he was so drunk that later he could not remember committing the offence, the court heard.
Paget, of Lilford Avenue, Bewsey, Warrington admitted burglary and sent to a young offenders’ institution for eight months.
David Jones, prosecuting, told the court Paget and a number of other youths began shouting and trying to gain entry to a house in Lovely Lane, Warrington before smashing windows and charging at a door.
The mother and three children barricaded themselves in the lounge because they feared for their safety and had to push back against the door to stop Paget bursting into the room.
When police arrived Paget tried to escape through a smashed window but was forced back inside because of another officer outside. He struggled with officers and shouted: “I’m going to knock you all out.”
Andrew Howe, defending, said Paget had shown sincere remorse over the incident and had even told probation officers: “They won’t feel safe in their own home and that is wrong.”
He said Paget was currently a full time student studying for a national diploma in sport and was mortified at what he had done.
