VANDALS set fire to a park bench off Poulton Crescent, Woolston Warrington, causing severe damage.
Firefighters were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze using a water backpack.
Police and the fire service are appealing for information about how the fire was started. Anyone who can help should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
In a separate incident, fire crews from Birchwood and Warrington were called to Rivington Court Woolston where fire had broken out in an industrial skip.
A hose reel jet was used to extinguish burning rubbish inside the skip.
