Road closed as firefighters free trapped casualty after vehicle overturns

FIREFIGHTERS have freed a casualty trapped inside an overturned vehicle following a serious road traffic collision at Whitley near Stretton, Warrington, this morning.

Emergency crews were called to Pillmoss Lane, Whitley, shortly before 8am after reports of a road traffic collision.
Two fire engines – from Lymm and Warrington – were sent to the scene.
An update at around 8.10am confirmed that a vehicle had overturned and come to rest on its side, with a casualty trapped inside.
Firefighters worked to release the casualty from the vehicle and, by 8.25am, had successfully freed them.
The casualty was then handed over to the care of paramedics.
Pillmoss Lane is currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident, and motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 7.45am on Tuesday 6 October, police were called to a collision on the A49 Tarporley Road, near Pillmoss Lane.
“Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and found there had been a collision involving a white Fiat 500.
“The driver of the car was released by firefighters and has been taken to Warrington District General Hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.
“The road remains blocked awaiting for vehicle recovery.”
