East Warrington is ready to spring to life with music, colour, and excitement as the annual Birchwood Carnival returns this Sunday (June 7) for its 43rd year.
Taking place at Birchwood Forest Park from 12 noon – and attended by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Sagheer Zaman – the event features a fantastic line-up of entertainment for the whole family.
The festivities kick off at 12.40pm with a vibrant ‘Flower Power’ themed procession around the park, led by the high-energy rhythms of the Batida Rio Samba Band. Straight after, the spotlight turns to the fancy dress competition judging and prize-giving, leading into the official opening of the event at 1pm.
The main arena will be buzzing all afternoon with a mix of acts. Visitors can look forward to the fast and furious Little Nippers Terrier Display Team, the spectacular Ridgeside Falconry, more beats from Batida Rio, and a performance by local favourites, Northern Starr Dance.
Beyond the arena, the park will be packed with things to do. Animal lovers can check out the fun dog show running throughout the afternoon or enjoy traditional donkey rides. There’s also a large funfair, a climbing wall, a wipeout challenge, and a rodeo surfboard.
Families can catch magic shows, brave The Creepy Crawley Show, explore local history displays, and browse around 25 charity, craft, and commercial stalls.
A range of free, interactive workshops – including drumming, crafts, and circus skills – will also be on offer.
Warrington Borough Council deputy leader and Cabinet Member for communities, culture and leisure, Cllr Jean Flaherty, said: “Birchwood Carnival has been a highlight of the local calendar for over four decades, and it’s wonderful to see the community come together for the festivities, year-after-year. We’re looking forward to once more welcoming everyone to Birchwood Forest Park for this special occasion.
“We’re grateful to the Ranger Service, the Birchwood Carnival Committee, and all of the local sponsors and partners whose funding and support make this event such a success every year. They’ve once again lined up a fantastic programme for everyone to enjoy, so make sure you join us for what promises to be an unforgettable day out.”
The event takes place on the main playing fields at Birchwood Forest Park. To find out more and keep up with the latest updates, head over to Facebook and search for Birchwood Carnival & Committee.
