FOUR people have been arrested following the tragic death of a 56-year-old male cyclist who was hit by a car near Lymm at around 6 pm on Monday evening.
Greater Manchester Police have this afternoon confirmed the cyclist, who was hit by a car at around 6pm on Paddock Lane at Warburton, was Stretford Grammar School headteacher Michael Mullins. He had worked at the school for 17 years and lived with his family in Weaverham, Northwich.
The family of Mr. Mullins has today paid tribute to their “loving Dad, husband, Brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, Uncle, Son-in-law”:
“Our loving Dad, husband, Brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, Uncle, Son-in-law, passed away last night after being knocked off his bike.
“He was devoted to his family, and our lives will never be the same. A gap has been left in our hearts and within his role as a headteacher of Stretford Grammar School.
“Our Dad gave us fantastic memories growing up, including a trip getting lost at night around Washington DC but it was in his role as a Grandad where he truly excelled.
“Our love and memories of Michael will know no limits.
“We will love him forever, to Saturn and beyond.”
At this time, the family requests privacy.
Lymm South Cllr. Graham Gowland said: “Residents have understandably been concerned by reports of an incident that began on Mill Lane in Lymm and concluded on Paddock Lane in Warburton.
While this is now a Greater Manchester Police investigation, I’m asking anyone who may have seen or recorded anything to check their Ring doorbells, CCTV or dashcams.
Even small details can help officers build a clear picture of what happened.
If you have footage or information, please pass it directly to GMP so they can take it forward. My thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone at the school at this incredibly difficult time.”
Officers were called to Paddock Lane, Altrincham, at around 6:10 pm yesterday (20.04.26) following reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a car.
The car failed to stop, however, over the course of yesterday and today, officers have made four arrests in relation to this incident. Three men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All remain in custody for questioning.
Mr Mullins was treated at the scene, however, despite best efforts at the scene, he sadly died. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
