HEALTH and social care charity Alternative Futures Group (AFG) – who run Lea Court Independent Hospital in Warrington – has been honoured with the prestigious Princess Royal Training Award, recognising the outstanding impact of its Welcome Induction Programme.

It is the second time the group has been aw3arded the nationally respected standard of excellence.

Celebrating its 10th year, the Princess Royal Training Award, granted by Princess Anne, President of the City and Guilds of London Institute, celebrates organisations that show exceptional commitment to learning and development, delivering measurable benefits for both individuals and businesses.
AFG’s achievement places it alongside leading UK employers such as Costa Coffee, Nationwide and Domino’s, who have also been recognised for their commitment to world-class training. Of the 414 awards granted to date, only around 10 per cent have gone to charities, making this recognition particularly significant.
In 2025, AFG’s Welcome Induction Programme was one of just 57 training initiatives across the UK to receive an award. Fully accredited for Continued Professional Development, the programme ensures new colleagues receive a consistent, inclusive and engaging introduction to the organisation.
The digital-first induction features expert-led learning, accessible video content, automated subtitles and flexible tools that support different learning needs. It has already supported more than 700 new starters, who collectively rate it an exceptional 4.9 out of 5.

AFG was also presented with a special commendation for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), an accolade granted to only a select few organisations whose training demonstrates exceptional inclusivity and accessibility. The commendation recognised the charity’s commitment to delivering an induction that is inclusive, accessible and welcoming for all colleagues, regardless of background or circumstances. It also highlights AFG’s best-practice approach to planning and delivering learning that meets diverse needs and ensures every colleague feels valued from day one.
