RESIDENTS from across Warrington gave their thumbs up to an ambitious healthy eating and cultural exchange event delivered by Golden Gates Housing Trust and Warrington Borough Council in partnership with the Co-operative supermarket.
The event, World on a Plate, brought together tenants and residents from a range of cultural backgrounds to promote healthy eating and help them gain a greater understanding of other cultures.
Chefs from Chinese, Indian and Nigerian backgrounds gave their time for free to demonstrate how to make traditional meals from their cultures to an enthusiastic audience, who then got to try each of the three dishes.
Prior to delivering their demonstrations each of the chefs worked closely with Warrington Borough Council’s Health Co-ordinators to make their recipes healthier.
They also helped them to use lower cost ingredients to make the dishes accessible to all sections of the community.
Those attending the event also received a complimentary bag of food shopping provided by a local Co-operative Supermarket. The bags, worth up to £5 each in value, contained all of the ingredients required to cook one of the meals.
Trust chairman Roy Smith said: “This event has proved a great way of bringing together our tenants and other local residents from different backgrounds.
“We are committed to helping our tenants improve their health and wellbeing and recognise the important role that a healthier diet can play. The feedback we received from the participants has been extremely positive and we are confident that the advice and guidance we have been able to deliver will help them to improve their diet.”
