THE Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Mo Hussain, attended the Armistice Day Service of remembrance at the Great Sankey and Penketh War Memorial, St Mary’s Church Cemetery, yesterday, Tuesday.

The Mayor was joined by pupils from several local primary schools who came together to honour those who sacrificed their lives in service to the country.
As the clock struck 11, a two-minute silence was observed in a moving act of remembrance, reflecting on the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in wars and conflicts.
During the ceremony, wreaths were laid by the Mayor on behalf of the town, alongside Borough Councillor Cllr Eunice Peters. Pupils from the attending schools also took part by laying their own wreaths in tribute to the fallen.
Lisa Billing who lost her son Daniel Wade at Afghanistan was present to read a very moving poem and also laid a wreath.
The event, organised by the Royal British Legion and supported by local councillors, has now been running for three years. Special thanks were given to Stuart Dicken of the Royal British Legion and his veteran colleagues for their dedication and hard work in making the event possible and ensuring it continues to be a respectful and meaningful occasion for the community.
The service provides an important opportunity for young people to learn about the significance of Armistice Day and to reflect on the values of peace, respect, and remembrance.
Mayor Hussain said: “It’s wonderful to see so many young people taking part and showing their respect. Today we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom, and it’s important that future generations continue to understand and honour their sacrifice. My sincere thanks to Stuart Dicken, the Royal British Legion, and all the veterans for their continued service and commitment.”
