RSPCA’s Adoptober shines a spotlight on rescued dogs Milah and Memphis during rehoming crisis

THE RSPCA in Warrington is appealing to find two dogs, called Milah and Memphis, their forever homes after both came into care when their owners could no longer care for them.

This Adoptober, the Warrington, Halton and St Helens Branch of the RSPCA is hoping both of them will get their dreams granted and finally find their perfect match.
In 2024 the RSPCA as a whole across its centres and branches rehomed a staggering 26,167 animals. Branches are part of the RSPCA but run as charities in their own right and work incredibly hard to rehome and rehabilitate animals across England and Wales.
The rehoming appeal for both pets comes as the RSPCA reveals it is facing a rehoming crisis, with record numbers of rescued dogs in care across the charity’s national animal centres and branches.
While new data from the charity’s centres reveals that it can take up to seven times longer for some larger dog breeds to find a new home compared to smaller dogs.

Katie Buckley, from the branch, said: “Memphis is aged four and came into our care along with her five puppies who have all been rehomed – and now we want to find the perfect forever home for her so she can enjoy a new chapter in her life.
“If you know the Husky breed, then you will know that they do like to chat to you most of the time, so you need to be prepared for some conversations and listening to her stories.
“Memphis has lived with other dogs but is so ready to be the only dog in the home and be spoiled rotten.
“The main thing to know about her is that she loves human company and will need a home with someone who is around for most of the time, perhaps a family who work different shifts so she can have someone with her most of the time.”
Milah is also looking for love. She is a stunning Japanese Akita cross breed, aged five, and came into RSPCA care when her previous owner fell ill and could no longer care for her.
Katie said: “Milah has made many friends during her stay here and everyone loves her, I mean how could you not fall in love with her beautiful face!
“She is a shy lady who needs some time to build trust and settle in. She is not a massive fan of other dogs so will prefer her own space – but in her foster home she has been helped around other dogs and has made friends with the dog next door.
“She is an easygoing girl but can be a little nervous in new settings and will need her new owner to reassure her that everything is okay and help her build the confidence to become the fabulous dog we all know she can be.”
