Police and Crime Commissioner responds to calls to “get finger out” over acts of vandalism to HMO pub

POLICE and Crime Commissioner Dan Price has responded to calls from a local councillor to “get his finger out” over acts of vandalism at the Grey Horse pub in Glazebury, which is earmarked to become a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO).

The former pub premises have been daubed with anti-HMO graffiti on at least two occasions, although the owners have this week attempted to clean up the appearance of the building.

Following the incidents, local Independent Cllr. Neil Johnson released a statement calling on the Police and Crime Commissioner to “pull your finger out” in the wake of recent acts of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
He said feelings were running high within the community after the owners revealed their intentions to convert the upstairs into a HMO. This led to two nights of vandalism and abusive graffiti being painted onto the building.
Cllr. Johnson says he is determined to make sure that Glazebury does not become a hot spot for crime and anti-social behaviour. “My message to the Police and Crime Commissioner is this – pull your finger out! There is a huge amount of concern locally over the prospect of a HMO in the village. However, this does not excuse acts of anti-social behaviour, graffiti and vandalism. We must all play our part in making sure these kinds of behaviours are shown to be unwelcome and unwanted in our community.
“At the same time, the Police and Crime Commissioner must demonstrate that he is committed to resolving the problems too. We know that Mr Price is very concerned with the Cheshire Mayoralty at the moment, and is desperate to get the Labour nomination. However, with all his political posturing inside the Labour Party, it seems that he has forgotten about Glazebury.
“We need an increased police presence in the village and more officers who can reassure residents and catch the perpetrators. We want to ensure that our village does not become a hot spot for crime and anti-social behaviour. Just because we are on the boundary of the county does not mean that our priorities should be ignored. These incidents are very unsettling for people who live here, and the Police Commissioner must be seen to act.”
In response, Mr Price said: said: “Local policing has been dealing with this dreadful vandalism, and I’m pleased the clean-up work has begun.
“Neil Johnson has made no effort to contact me and instead is trading insults in the media 10 days after the incident happened. Nevertheless, I’m willing to meet Neil alongside fellow ward councillors to work on preventing more vandalism.”

  1. Missing the point though gentlemen ….the overriding concern is the prospect of the HMO right next door to and over looking a small village primary school. Yes, the graffiti is an eye-sore and not acceptable however, you are both skirting over the main issue. The graffiti was a reaction to the HMO. You are treating the graffiti as the issue . ..

  2. Bowden haha, I know you’ll read this, you got some cheek commenting on anything to do with Warrington, stick to whatever rock you crawled under…also Check the people that liked his comment! Tells you a lot about his disciples 😂

  3. How about the local “counclor” get HIS finger out and start protecting his constituents instead of pandering to his cronies and all the undesirables that most probably will be put in said HMO. This country has well and truly gone to the pits.
