FIREFIGHTERS were called out twice last night to deal with fires in the Warrington area  which could have arisen because of the heatwave.

A fire on the bank of the Manchester Ship Canal off Moss Lane, Walton was dealt with by a crew from Runcorn who found two seats of fire and  used a hose reel jet to extinguish them.

Less than half-an-hour later,  at crew from Lymm was called to Cartridge Lane, Grappenhall where a hedge on farmland was ablaze.

The fire involved about eight metres by two metres and a hose reel jet was used to extinguish.

The crew monitored the heat with a thermal imaging camera before leaving the scene.

No damage to property was reported at either incident.
