Care home residents celebrate Yorkshire Day

RESIDENTS at Cheshire Grange care home in Lymm were proud to celebrate all things Yorkshire on Yorkshire Day on August 1st.

Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975 in Beverly. The day commemorates the Battle of Minden between Britain-Hanover and French forces in 1759, along with the emancipation of British Empire slaves in 1834, for which Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce fought a tireless campaign.

There was a surprise in store for Cheshire Grange residents on the day when they received a visit from two very well known Yorkshire characters from Last of The Summer Wine, Nora Batty & Compo!!!
The duo read Yorkshire poems and tested resident’s knowledge of Yorkshire with some quiz questions and everybody was really amazed to learn that one of Yorkshires famous daughters was Dame Judi Dench!!
Residents then enjoyed sharing their memories and connections with Yorkshire over a cup of Yorkshire tea,
Dawn Holsgrove- Smith General Manager at Cheshire Grange said: “We have had a brilliant day celebrating God’s own county. Lots of our residents are from, have lived in or visited Yorkshire and it was lovely for them to be able to share their stories with us, and we must thank our special guests for the day, it’s a shame that our Activities Team weren’t around to meet them!’
Resident Norma commented when visited by Nora & Compo “Aye I know Yorkshire, and I know you two, it’s the stockings that give it away”
The care home’s varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
Cheshire Grange is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. Cheshire Grange provides nursing care, residential care, respite care.
