A new £23,000 playground has been officially opened at Penketh Primary School in Warrington.
Warrington South MP Sarah Hall joined the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Mo Hussain, local councillor Eunice Peters, school staff and families to officially open the brand-new set of play equipment at Penketh Primary School, a project entirely funded by the school’s Parent, Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA).
The play area, which cost £23,000, was made possible thanks to years of tireless fundraising by volunteers and parents. It will offer children a safe, exciting space to grow in confidence, build friendships, and enjoy the power of play.
The project was initiated and delivered by the PTFA, whose community fundraising calendar includes everything from quiz nights and tuck shops to Penketh’s annual firework display. In recent years, they’ve raised funds for new reading books and iPads, but this major investment was a long-held dream.
The school’s next goal is to raise funds for a new PA system for their school hall, continuing their focus on creating opportunities for every child to thrive.
Speaking at the opening, Ms Hall said:“It’s been brilliant to see the children throwing themselves into this amazing new play area, they couldn’t wait to jump on.
“Play is about more than fun. It’s about confidence, creativity, and friendship, and this space gives children all of that and more.
“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who made it happen. The staff, the parents, the PTFA volunteers, this is what community looks like.”
