Volunteers wanted for Policing Museum

0

A chance to guide visitors through the Victorian cells at Warrington Police Station is being offered to interested folk.

There’s also an opportunity to explain the role of firearms officers next to an impressive display, talk about underwater police searches and the role of forensics in policing.
These are just some of the attractions at the Warrington-based Museum of Policing in Cheshire.
Those with the right skills are being invited to join the friendly team as a volunteer Tour Guide at the popular Arpley Street venue.
You could be demonstrating uniforms through the ages, encouraging people to sit in a police car or explaining how one prisoner managed to escape!

Museum Manager Peter Hampson said: “We have a whole range of groups visiting from social clubs to scouts and cubs. A series of open days are held during the summer, which attracts about 400 people per session.
“Volunteers enjoy meeting the enthusiastic guests and are always pleased to tell the stories of the museum and answer questions.”
As well as tours, volunteers have assisted with a school’s Mock Trial competition, CSI training and for the braver ones…an overnight ghost hunt when a series of unexplained events occurred!
Volunteers do “roadshow” work with a stall at events including Stockton Heath Festival, Disability Awareness Day and activities at the Town Hall.
The friendly team often enjoy meals out together and a volunteers’ quiz at Police Headquarters in Winsford.
