Wild about Warrington

WARRINGTON Friends of the Earth and the borough council are joining forces to put on a bee-themed family fun day full of wildlife activities, games, workshops and stalls.
There will also be one of the UK’s first public showings of the new award-winning film about the curious and little understood worldwide decline of bees, “Queen of the Sun.”
The special free all-day event, which also acts as the launch of the new Friends of the Earth “Wild About Warrington” project, takes place on February 15 at the Pyramid and is open to everyone across Warrington.
The day time activities, 1pm-4pm include arts and crafts, mini-Olympics, mural painting, music and dance workshops, candle rolling, cook and taste sessions and honey-tasting, orienteering and free wildflower seeds to take away.
There will be stalls mounted by wildlife, green and health groups from across the region – and a visit from Warrington Wolves’ mascot Wolfie.
From 6.30pm there will be free showing of the new film “Queen of the Sun”, introduced by one of Warrington’s own local bee keepers.
Dina Baird, co-ordinator of Warrington Friends of the Earth said: “You don’t have to live in the countryside to experience the wonderful things that nature has to offer.
“Our new ‘Wild About Warrington’ project is about all of us in Warrington having a chance to help make our town a bit wilder and this family fun day’s a fantastic opportunity to have a great fun day out, have a giggle and help start to make our town a wild place to live.”
