Green light for electric vehicle charging infrastructure at new bus depot

PLANNERS have given the green light for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure to power an all-electric bus fleet for the town next year.

The installation includes lighting, plant and associated works at the new Warrington Bus Depot on Dallam Lane And Bewsey Road, Warrington.

Work to deliver the £10m bus depot was largely completed after the council was successful in securing funding under the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme.
Warrington was chosen as one of five “fast-track” authorities to deliver these new electric bus fleets.

In support of the planning application, it was stated that electric vehicles for Warrington’s Own Buses will deliver significant environmental benefits to Warrington by improving air quality locally, while also assisting in the decarbonisation of the transport sector.
The local population will benefit from a high-quality, environmentally friendly local 105-strong new electric bus fleet and service in 2024.
The charging infrastructure will ensure the fleet can be fully electric.
The proposed works are located at the rear of the site where the bus parking is located and will include a brick substation and will also include some light installations to ensure vehicles can be charged after dark.

New state-of-the-art £10m bus depot officially opened
