Public invited to lay flowers and wreaths outside town hall as Warrington mourns death of Queen Elizabeth II

AS Warrington mourns the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II members of the public have been invited to lay flowers and wreaths on the town hall lawn.

Meanwhile, political figures from the town have been paying tribute following the loss of the longest serving monarch, who sadly died yesterday aged 96, after 70 years on the throne.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Russ Bowden said: “I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty’s passing and I would like to pay my own personal tribute to the Queen and to extend my sincerest condolences to all of the Royal Family.
“For over 70 years, the Queen has selflessly dedicated herself to a life of public service. A tireless ambassador, her passing truly marks the end of an era.
“The grief and sorrow we feel today reflects the important role she has played throughout our lives and the remarkable legacy she leaves.
“The flag has been lowered above the Town Hall and will remain at half-mast throughout the period of mourning.
“As we take the next few weeks to reflect further and celebrate her extraordinary life we would invite members of the public to lay flowers and wreaths on the lawn in front of the town hall.”

Meanwhile, Charlotte Nichols MP said: “We mourn the passing of a remarkable sovereign after an unparalleled 70-year reign; the only Monarch most of us have ever known, and who embodied something very special about our country and our image of ourselves as a nation.
“Her reign has been a constant in a world and in a country which has undergone seismic changes throughout her time as Queen. As the second Elizabethan era draws to a sad close, my thoughts are with her family and all those around the country and the world who will be mourning her loss.
“May her memory forever be a blessing, and may we all carry forward the sense of duty and service to others for which she was so admired and which will no doubt be her legacy.
“God save the Queen – Long live the King.”

Leader of the Opposition on WBC Cllr Nigel Blading said: “I am very sad to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and I will greatly miss her amazing energy, her dedication to service and her sense of fun.
“Queen Elizabeth has been a tremendous leader and an inspiration for generations in Warrington, the United Kingdom and the whole world. In times of huge change and uncertainty she has provided many of us with a fantastic feeling of continuity, like a rock anchoring us in our communities, and her passing leaves us with an emptiness that will take a long time to heal.
“Over the next few days of National mourning there will be a chance to celebrate our Queen’s life and her tremendous achievements. Looking forward, I think that we are fortunate that King Charles III has had such a great example to follow and has been blessed with having such a wonderful mother and teacher.”

Cllr Sarah Hall said: “The sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marks the end of our nation’s second great Elizabethan era.
“The Queen has been a constant and remarkable figure of reassurance to the country for over 70 years. The hallmark of her reign has been her total and selfless dedication to public service.
“I pay my tribute to the life and work of a genuinely unique monarch.
“I send my sincere condolences at the passing of Queen Elizabeth II to all the members of the Royal family.”

Andy Carter MP, who walked down to Buckingham Palace last night to pay tribute said: “All our thoughts are with the Royal Family following the death of HM Queen Elizabeth.
“Her Majesty was the constant in our lives, an inspiration to all in the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world.
“We will forever be grateful for her service and dedication.
May she rest in peace. God Save The King.”
